I imagine this phrase means different things to different people. It is something I have heard quite a bit lately. At Church it is used to encourage us to be prepared for Jesus’ return – are we living the right kinds of lives, with intent and for the glory of God?
However, I believe it can apply to lots of different situations and scenarios. To be ready appears to imply a state of being prepared – for what? Well maybe for any eventuality. None of us knows what is around the corner. Circumstances can change in the blink of an eye. Are we in a state of readiness?
I believe this has a lot to do with personal responsibility. If we try to keep ourselves well and healthy by eating well, taking regular exercise and getting plenty of rest; this keeps our body in a state of readiness to be best placed to fight off disease and illness and maintain our well-being. Of course, everyone gets ill and I am not suggesting that it is our fault, merely that sometimes the choices we make can have an impact on our lives – if not now, then maybe later.
Also if we consider our mental well-being, in order to live ready to cope when stress occurs (an unplanned event perhaps), then we need to try to minimise stress in our day to day lives so that we are not in a constant alert state which puts a massive strain on our bodies and minds. I know this is probably easier said than done for most of us, but it is I feel worth considering. How can you live ready?
